| Apart from museums and landmark buildings, Reykjavik is also famous for its outdoor attractions. One such popular destination is the Reykjavik Blue Lagoon. The Blue Lagoon is a geothermal spa and is one of the most frequently visited sites by locales and foreigners alike. It's been featured in publications and various TV shows, this destination for all ages exhibits one of the country's best alternative for experiencing Iceland's world-famous geothermal pools. The waters in the Blue Lagoon are part of a unique lava formation and are rich in minerals such as silica and sulfur. Individuals with certain skin diseases are encouraged to swim or bathe in the spa as it could apparently cure such ailments. With regards to its temperature, the water in the Blue Lagoon averages around 40 C. One can, however, locate a specific area in the spa where the water is relatively cooler. Guests may also meet a lot of locales here as this is one of Iceland's hub for gatherings and socializing. Every year, lots of families from within and around the city go to the lagoon to bathe and meet new friends. As part of its facilities, the lagoon has a changing room which could accommodate many visitors, and a restaurant called Blue Cafe which serves soups, salads, and dairy products. As a final note, the lagoon is located within a moss-covered lava field in Grindavik, a fishing town on the Reykjanes Peninsula. |
