Myvatn has a large number of attractions. For example, the Lake Myvatn which as created by a large basaltic lava eruption 2300 years ago, and the surrounding landscape is dominated by volcanic landforms, including lava pillars and rootless vents. Myvtan is a place that seems virgin and is a treat for explorers. There are around 450 inhabitants in Myvatn of which around 200 live in the village Reykjahlio.
