Skógar Folk Museum

One unique outdoor attraction in Iceland is the Skógar Folk Museum. Located in the Skógar village and opened in 1949, this site of interest is a collection of houses close to each other. This open-air attraction has been established by one man, Thordur Tomasson, who has started and tirelessly continued the collection of historic structures and antiquities.
Upon arriving to the museum, visitors can walk through the pathway where various types of Icelandic houses are displayed. Each house depicts a certain era in the country’s history. Guests may also step inside the houses and observe the wide array of equipment, furniture, and literature owned and used by Icelandic people in the earlier times. As a highlight of any tour around the museum, individuals are invited to visit its pride, a small yet charming church. Consecrated in 1998, this structure offers a glimpse at what Icelandic churches would have look like centuries ago. Within the museum church, guests can marvel at antique religious items such as a wooden and winged altarpiece, chalices, and a set of church bells.
Moving on, after viewing and taking images of the houses and the church, visitors can wander around the nearby sod farm, where they can witness the way of life of Icelandic farmers long ago. Apart from viewing the picturesque scenery in the agricultural land, more antique houses and artifacts may be seen of the visitors in the said tourist destination. For those who would like to get some fresh air, there are areas in this farm where they can sit and rest for a while.
